    STOP PRESS – APOLOGY MADE

If Friday the 13th is unlucky, then 2009 is an unusually unlucky year. Yet despite all the superstitions, David Cameron has succeeded in shouting out the hardest word by openly apologising for the mistakes his party made on the economy, among them not warning about the extent of the UK's debt crisis. The loudest sound now is the silence from 10 Downing Street. Now I'm not here to argue which political party should be in power however, this is a good illustration of how to break away from the past and gain credibility with the public. There is a clear dividing line between the parties, that the Conservatives have held their hands up and said ‘sorry', while the PM and government have repeatedly said they have nothing to apologise for. The opinion polls suggest that the public believe that they do. Let's see who comes out on top!
